About the Department of Global Studies

The Department of Global Studies (GSD) plays a crucial role in the comprehensive education provided to all students at the university. With a focus on enriching the educational experience of KFUPM engineering, science, and industrial management majors, the department aims to broaden its horizons through its social science curriculum.

At the heart of the Department of Global Studies are courses covering various social sciences such as sociology, political science, history, cultural anthropology, and psychology. The curriculum is designed to provide students with substantive knowledge in these fields while simultaneously fostering the development of their critical thinking, communication, and creative abilities.

Understanding human behavior and the social, political, cultural, and historical processes that shape individuals and societies is essential. This understanding not only enriches students’ academic experience but also equips them with the skills necessary for sound judgment, critical thinking, and effective performance in their chosen occupational roles.

The Department of Global Studies is dedicated to preparing students for the challenges and complexities of the modern world, ensuring that they are well-rounded individuals capable of making meaningful contributions to society.

MESSAGE FROM THE CHAIRMAN

Dr. Yahya Saleh Alzahrani

In August 2021, the Department of Global Studies (GS) integrated with the KFUPM Business School (KBS) to introduce its programs with a global perspective. This strategic alliance entails the initiation of new concentrations (CXs), master programs, and a comprehensive restructuring of all existing courses. The department’s overarching aim is to enhance the overall educational offerings within the KBS curricula.

The GS stands as a multidisciplinary department, boasting expertise across various disciplines such as International Relations, International Law, Public Policy, Economic Policy, Cultural Anthropology, History, Psychology, and Sociology. Our diverse faculty body offers a wide array of enriching research, courses, and programs, all of which contribute significantly to the academic excellence of KFUPM graduates.

Through this collaboration, the Department of Global Studies is committed to equipping students with the requisite skills, knowledge, and global perspective necessary to thrive in an increasingly interconnected and dynamic world. This partnership seeks to prepare students to become competent and globally aware professionals capable of making substantial contributions to their respective fields and society at large.
