Information Systems & Operations Management

About/history

The Information Systems and Operations Management (ISOM) Department traces its roots to the College of Industrial Management (CIM), established in 1975. Following the reorganization of the College’s undergraduate programs in 1990, Management Information Systems became one of its core academic disciplines.

In 2020, as CIM was transformed into KFUPM Business School (KBS), Management Information Systems and Operations Management were brought together under the newly established ISOM Department, creating a stronger platform for integrating technology, analytics, and operations.

The Department has since expanded its academic portfolio to meet the needs of an increasingly digital and data-driven economy. In addition to the B.S. in Management Information Systems, ISOM introduced the professional Master of Supply Chain Management in 2021 and Master of Business Analytics in 2022, while also offering undergraduate concentrations in Business Analytics and Supply Chain Management.

In 2026, ISOM launched two new undergraduate programs—B.S. in Business Analytics and AI and B.S. in Operations and Supply Chain—designed for a rapidly evolving business environment where artificial intelligence, data analytics, digital technologies, and resilient supply chains are transforming how organizations operate and compete.
